We have followed the TAFE Western Sydney Polecats story all year and last weekend at the 2016 NSW Tertiary Students Rugby League Grand Finals the club unfortunately failed to win either grades with first divisions going down to the UTS Tigers and seconds to UC Grizzlies.
In the main game at Leichhardt, it was the defending premiers up against the UTS Tigers and after 5 minutes of action the Polecats were up by 4 when winger Jarek Fuavaa scored in the corner, UTS hit back in the 10th minute of the game and hit the front after they converted their try. The Polecats level the scores back to 6 all when John Norford got his penalty conversion in the 15th minute of the match, as both side continued to push, the Polecats finally broke with a minute before half time and the side went in the shed down 12 points to 6.
In the 2nd half the Polecats started slow allowing UTS to score twice in the 25 minutes, to let them be up 24 points to 6, the Polecats got going again through Shane Brown’s try in the 60th minute and when Jarek Fuavaa, cross in the 67th the Polecats had a slim chance of a comeback, but as the clock tick down so did the Polecats chances and UTS went on to claim victory and the Premiership 24 points to 16.
Second Grade after being only down by 10 points to 12 at half time went on to lose the Grand Final 38 points to 14, while the side was help along by tries from Josh Kabboura, Peter Ngaluafe and Peter Jennson and Goal from Sean Prior 1, it just was not enough to stop the UC Grizzlies.
“Even though we did win either Division, both our side were represented at a Grand Final, which is huge achievement its self. It was also great to see Sean Prior win the League highest points scorer in 1st Division and also the club receiving the club championship.” Club President Rob Weisback.
The Polecats now look to their Presentation Night at the Castle Hill Tavern on the 19/11/16, before 2017 Preseason training start again late in the year.
