Grand Final’s for one team their dreams will be etched into the history book’s, while for another heartbreak, but their can only be one winner, as for the TAFE NSW Polecats they will be trying to erase the heartbreak from their two Grand Final loses last year, when the both divisions again feature in the NSW Tertiary Rugby League competitions ultimate day.
For the 3rd straight year the Polecats 1st Division will be going head to head with their arch rivals and defending premiers the UTS Tigers, while UTS claimed the minor premiership this season, its was only decided by for/against and it was on show how close these 2 sides are when their semi-final went into extra time only to see UTS pip the Polecats in the end.
This will be the 10th time the Polecats will meet UTS the in the big one and while currently UTS hold a 6 wins to 3 advantages, with the Polecats going in with the underdogs tag this could be the year the Polecats peg one back on their foes. So with history on UTS’s side and boosting the best attack and defence in the league the mountain will be just that little bit higher, but Jackson chargers are quietly confident they have the depth to take it to UTS for 70 minutes and beyond, and scale back to the top of the Tertiary League mountain.
“Nothing better than the 2 best teams meeting on grand final day. It will be our 3rd in a row against UTS and it feels a little bit like a decider of recent years. Our reserve grade have been the best team all year and really deserve to have a big day as well. It’s an exciting day for the club.” Polecats Head Coach Dan Jackson.
2nd Division will be on the hunt to shake their 20 year drought today when they take on UTS, its been 5 years since these two sides have meet in a Grand Final, but back then UTS just got it over the Polecats winning the grand final by 8 points. While this year the Polecats have been streets apart from the rest of the 2nd Division sides, we know anything can happen in the big one. And if the drought breaks the win will be just that little bit sweeter with Polecats President Peter Lamey and 2nd Division Coach Chris Thompson, the other active members of the last winning 2nd division side back in 1997.
While the last encounter in the first semi final the Polecats thrashed UTS by 48 points, this match will be a little different with so much more on the line.
“Looking forward to a great day, hoping to make it a double for the first time in 21 years and end the 2nd division drought.” Polecats President Peter Lamey.
So with so much on stake, the Polecats will hopefully be making history, so all you Polecat fans, supporters, and family we will see you at the ground, but if you can’t make we are hoping to setup a video feed on Facebook live.
