After months of preseason training the TAFE NSW Polecats were finally let lose as Round 1 of the NSW Tertiary Rugby League competition finally kick off, last weekend.
Playing Sydney Uni at their new home ground of Blackmore Oval, the Polecats started strong, pressuring Sydney Uni until their defences finally broke in the 18th minute when Gran Edwards crashed over the line and after Mitchell King converted the Polecats were in front 6 – nil. Sydney Uni hit back 5 minutes later to even the scores, but it was not long before the Polecats were back in front when Ben Carter scored and when Mitch King bagged his second conversion the Polecats lead was back to 6. With 5 minutes left in the half the Polecats had a shot at goal after a penalty and when King converted the Polecats took a 14 points to 6 lead into the break.
The second half started well for the Polecats but as fitness and errors caught up with the Polecats, Sydney Uni score 3 times in 20 minutes to hit the lead and eventually take the match defeating the Polecats 14 points to 22.
This weekend the Tertiary League roadshow heads to Kellyville with the Grand Final replay when the Polecats take on UTS Tigers at 3:00pm while Sydney Uni clash against Macquarie Uni at 1:00pm.
