This Saturday marks the first home game for the Polecats in 2019. This year the Polecats will be opening their canteen and raising money for one of our players who recently had a serious operation.
It will be a great atmosphere with all Polecats past and present encouraged to bring the family out and see some rugby league up close in the suburbs.
The Polecats will be taking on the Western Sydney University Ducks for the first time since 2017. The Ducks have recently re-emerged in the competition after competing well in last year’s tertiary Nines.
Last week, the Ducks opened their season with a convincing victory over Macquarie University and currently lead the tertiary ladder.
The Polecats are coming off the back of a tough win last week vs Cumberland Beavers who are also back in the competition from Hiatus. Recruitment continues to build with 3 new players over the past week. 2 whom will feature in this weeks game. Strong numbers are making competition for spots a headache that the club loves to have.
During the Week Head coach Dennis Curry named the Polecats captain and vice captain for 2019. Shane ‘Browny’ Brown was honoured as Captain and new recruit Daniel ‘Deeza’ Arona was handed the Vice captaincy. Dennis Curry spoke of the virtues of both players; Browny having captained previously has lots of experience and has a cool, composed head for rugby League. Deeza is a good positive talker on the field, and leads by example. These are all qualities to help the team stay on track when under pressure.
The Polecats will benefit greatly from this leadership and will be very hard to beat at home with a parochial crowd behind them.
So come down and cheer so the Polecats can make it 2 in row and remain undefeated.
