The TAFE Western Sydney Polecats 1st Division side have now earned its spot in the 2016 NSW Tertiary Grand Final after defeating the Sydney University Lions at Norford Park last Saturday.
With it all on the line the Polecats had to put in a strong effort, but after 15 minutes of action the sides had conceded 2 Sydney Uni tries and 10 points through lack lustre defence. With the side down Polecats winger Jarek Fuavaa got the scoreboard ticking over, when he scored in the 19th minute, as the ball continued to flow the Polecats way, fullback Shannon Norford found a hole and scooted 30 metres to claim the Polecats 2nd try 5 minutes later, the scores were then locked up at 10 all after John Norford successfully converted his brothers try. Luke Rye continued the Polecats onslaught when he crossed under the post 5 minutes before the half time hooter, and as the time ticked down the Polecats went in the break up 16 points to 10.
After the break the Polecats again let in easy points, when Sydney crossed 4 minutes in to the half to bring it back to a 2 point ball game. The Polecats then got focus knowing their season was on the line, and found their form, starting with Brendan Keevers scoring followed by Russell Murtha and capped off by Joe Ngawini, to give the Polecats a 34 points to 14 victory over Sydney Uni and book a spot alongside 2nd Division in next week’s Grand Finals.
