The TAFE NSW Polecats have put in another below par performance in their worst ever loss to Sydney University at Sydney University Oval last Saturday.
Playing the ladder leaders Sydney Uni as the headline match of a triple header on Sydney Uni’s Old Boys Day, the Polecats did not last long against a red-hot Sydney Uni allowing Sydney to score in the first 5 minutes. It was then like clockwork for Uni, who scored at regular intervals in the 10th, 16th, 21st and 30th minute, with the only respite for the Polecats coming at halftime, with the side was down 26 points to nil.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were better defensively, not allowing Sydney to score until the 55th minute, when the gates flew wide open and Uni put another 26 points on in 15 minutes to smash the Polecats in their biggest win ever with the final score finishing at 52 points to nil.
The flogging has now pushed the Polecats out of the top 4. Due to family and work commitments Coach Chris Thompson will be stepping down with assistant Peter Lamey taking the reigns for the remainder of the season. Chris will continue the season as trainer and assistant to Peter.
The Polecats now have a week to turn their season around when they take on Carlingford Cougars at Sir Mitchell Thomas reserve this coming Saturday.
